World Water Day 2026: Water and Gender Equality
World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, is an annual United Nations Observance. This year, to celebrate, The Icelandic Hydrology Commtittee, LIFE Icewater, and Reykjavík Energy will host an afternoon seminar on Friday, 20 March, in Elliðaárstöð in Elliðaárdalur in Reykjavík under the heading Water and Gender Equality.
GRÓ GEST is proud to share that 2026 GRÓ GEST Fellow Esther Chinecherem George, computer analyst and gender champion at Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation in Imo, Nigeria, will give a presentation on Gender Barriers in Water Utilities and the Path Forward in Developing Countries at the seminar, alongside presenters Pálína B. Matthíasdóttir of the Directorate for Development Cooperation at the Icelandic MFA and historian Stefán Pálsson.
The event will be held mainly in Icelandic, but Esther Chinecherem‘s presentation will be in English. The seminar is open to all interested parties. Registration is requested to enable the hosts to estimate the number of guests.
