On Friday, 25 November 2022, GRÓ GEST and CEGENSA – Centre for Gender Studies and Advocacy co-hosted an information meeting about the GRÓ GEST post-graduate diploma programme in international gender studies at the University of Iceland. The event took place at the International Programmes Office seminar hall at the University of Ghana.

This was part of an ongoing Erasmus+ partnership between CEGENSA at the University of Ghana and the GEST programme at the University of Iceland.

Prior to the information meeting, the event had been spread through various social media channels in Ghana, both by CEGENSA and other local organizations and CSOs. The meeting was well-attended by both students from UG and various junior professionals from Accra’s development and CSO sector. The meeting was also broadcast via ZOOM.

The event was opened with remarks from Mrs. Barbara Kuukua Blankson, the Senior Assistant Registrar in the International Programmes Office (IPO), University of Ghana, who reiterated the importance of the continued collaboration and student exchange between the University of Ghana and the University of Iceland. This was followed by remarks from Dr Abena Kyere of the Institute of African Studies/CEGENSA, who emphasized the continued focus on gender equality in the University’s work.

GRÓ GEST staff members Anna Guðrún Aradóttir and Dr Thomas Brorsen Smidt then introduced attendees to the GEST diploma programme, with a special emphasis on the selection process and criteria. The Q&A session that followed was characterized by a great interest in the GEST programme, with questions touching on everything from eligibility criteria and curriculum to Icelandic weather and food. Two Ghanaian GEST alumni, Maame Adwoa Amoa-Marfo and Gideon Mawutor, were also present to answer questions from the fellows’ point of view.

The call for nominations to the GEST programme will be published on the admissions page on 1 December 2023.
