Sonal Dhanani Receives International Award

GRÓ GEST is pleased to extend heartfelt congratulations to alumna Sonal Dhanani (Pakistan, 2022), who has been selected as one of the Human Rights Recognition Awards (HRRA) 2025 recipients. The awards are hosted by the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue and highlight impactful global contributions under this year’s theme: “Human Rights in the Digital Age: Accountability, Freedom, Respect.”

Sonal has been honored with the Individual Award for Defending Freedom of Expression Online, in recognition of her leadership in advocating for digital freedom, youth empowerment, and creative civic engagement in Pakistan. Her work focuses on expanding safe and equitable digital spaces, with a particular emphasis on feminist leadership, peacebuilding, and the wellbeing of young people navigating online environments.

Reflecting on the recognition, Sonal noted the continued influence of her time in the GRÓ GEST Programme, where she further strengthened her rights-based approach and feminist advocacy.

“This recognition deeply reflects the values and learning I have carried from my time with GRÓ GEST. The programme shaped my work at the intersection of gender, peacebuilding, and digital wellbeing,” she shared.

The HRRA 2025 Awards Ceremony will take place on 13 December 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland, bringing together human rights advocates, diplomats, and experts to celebrate the year’s awardees.

GRÓ GEST celebrates Sonal’s achievements and her ongoing commitment to advancing inclusive digital futures. We are proud to see her work continue to inspire positive change, both in Pakistan and globally.

Warm congratulations once again, Sonal.
