Graduation Wednesday 21st of May
A graduation ceremony for GRÓ Fisheries Training Programme’s 26th cohort of fellows will be held on Wednesday 21st of May.
The ceremony will take place at the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, Fornubúðum 5, Hafnarfjörður, from 14:50.
Concurrently, a poster exhibition showcasing the final projects of the graduating fellows will be on display at the same location.

14:50 - 15:00 Guests arrive
15:00 - 15:05 Julie Ingham, Deputy Director FTP and Master of Ceremonies, welcomes guests and introduces the agenda
15:05 - 15:10 Mr. Martin Eyjólfsson, Permanent Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addresses the guests
15:10 - 15:20 Ms. Lidia Brito, Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences, UNESCO, addresses the guests
15:20 - 15:45 Mr. Þór Heiðar Ásgeirsson, Director of GRÓ-FTP, presents graduation certificates to the fellows
15:45 - 15:53 Ms. Kristina Setiani, fellow from Indonesia, speaks on behalf of the graduating cohort
15:53 - 15:55 Master of Ceremonies invites guests to the reception and to view fellows´ poster exhibition
15:55 - 16:00 Guests proceed to the reception; fellows remain for group graduation photograph
16:00 - 17:00 Reception. Guests are encouraged to view fellows´ research posters in the entrance to MFRI
The 2024-25 cohort includes 23 fellows from 14 countries -- across Latin America & the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. This year women (12) slightly exceed the number of men (11). After a six week introduction course the fellows specialised in the following lines: Aquatic Resource Assessment and Monitoring (6), Sustainable Aquaculture (6) Quality Management (6); and Fisheries Policy and Management (5).
Since the programme began in 1998, a total of 512 fellows have completed the training, including the cohort that now graduates.
