Dr. Nasser Kasozi, Director of Research at the Buginyanya Research and Development Institute in Mbale, Uganda, visited Iceland in December to serve as an opponent in the PhD defense of GRÓ FTP fellow Safina Musa (news featured earlier).

While in Iceland, GRÓ Fisheries Training Programme (GRÓ FTP) invited Dr. Kasozi to deliver an open seminar at the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute on 16 December. The event brought together fisheries scientists and GRÓ FTP’s current fellows from the 2025–2026 intake.

Dr. Kasozi’s presentation focused on two key themes: Catalyzing transformative aquaculture research in Uganda: The Role of NARO and Africa’s aquaculture landscape: Challenges, opportunities, and future prospects. His insights highlighted both the progress and the pressing needs in aquaculture development across the continent and sparked a lively discussion from the audience.

GRÓ FTP values the opportunity to bring perspectives from research scientists from our partner countries to Iceland and create spaces for knowledge sharing that strengthen global collaboration in fisheries and aquaculture.
