Graduation ceremony Tuesday 1st of March

A graduation ceremony for GRÓ Fisheries Training Programme’s 23rd cohort of fellows will be held Tuesday 1st of March.

The ceremony will take place at the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, Fornubúðum 5 Hafnarfirði and start at 15:00.

Immediately following the ceremony, a poster exhibition of the final projects of the graduating fellows will be unveiled at the same location.

14:30 Guests arrive.

15:00 Director of Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, Mr. Þorsteinn Sigurðsson, welcomes guests.

15:05 Director general of GRÓ, Ms. Nína Björk Jónsdóttir, says a few words on behalf of the GRÓ – International Centre for Capacity Development, Sustainable use of Natural Resources and Societal Change under the auspices of UNESCO.

15:10 Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Ms. Svandís Svavarsdóttir, delivers a short address.

15:20 Presentation of Certificates: Director of GRÓ-FTP, Ms. Mary Frances Davidson, introduces the fellows.

15:40 Fellows’ representative, Ms. Diana Elizabeth Barahona Hernandez from El Salvador, will speak on behalf of the group.

15:50 Mr. Þorsteinn Sigurðsson delivers closing words.

In the 2021-22 academic year 27 fellows took part in the GRÓ-FTP six-month training programme, from 16 countries in Oceania, Asia, Africa and Central America.

Eleven of them specialised in Fisheries Policy and Management; six in Aquatic Resource Assessment and Monitoring; six in Quality Management of Fish Handling and Processing; and four in Sustainable Aquaculture.

Since the programme started in 1998, 442 fellows have completed the training in Iceland.
