Based upon a successful longstanding partnership, the GRÓ – Fisheries Training Programme and the University of Akureyri have signed a new cooperation contract.

Under this agreement, University of Akureyri will oversee the development and implementation of the programme´s specialist training related to fisheries policy and management, and will provide fellows with academic support and hands on training opportunities.

The agreement covers all aspects of the Six Month Training in which UNAK is an active participant, including the introduction, specialisation and final project.

It was signed by the Dean of the School of Business and Science, Dr. Oddur Þór Vilhelmsson, and GRÓ-FTP´s Director, Mary Frances Davidson.

Implementation of the specialist line on Fisheries Policy and Management is in the hands of Hreiðar Þór Valtýsson, associate professor at the School of Business and Science, who has valuable experience in leading University of Akureyri’s fisheries science line of study.

The signing of the contract took place during a recent field trip of this year’s cohort of fellows to the northern region of Iceland (see some highlights below).
