The Faculty of Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Akureyri organised two days of lectures to introduce GRÓ-FTP fellows to the practical business and science-based studies offered in fisheries science. On the first day Eyjólfur Guðmundsson, the university rector, welcomed the group and shared his vision of sustainable fisheries, then introductory lectures were held by faculty members Hreiður Þór Valtýsson and Hörður Sævaldsson, followed by Óttar Erlingsson from the Directorate of Fisheries. This was followed by a workshop on Gender and Fisheries taught by Auður Ingólfsdóttir. On the second day Hreiðar Þór Valtýsson outlined the historical development of the fishing industry in Iceland, followed by Hafdís Björg Hjálmarsdóttir and Vera K Vestmann Kristjánsdóttir who focused on the marketing of seafood, and Fjóla Björk Karlsdóttir introduced innovation in fisheries. GRÓ-FTP would like to thank the staff members of the Faculty of Natural Resource Sciences for their contribution towards making the fellows trip to Akureyri a memorable one.
