Thor Heiðar Ásgeirsson is the new director of FTP. He formally took over the responsibility on August 1st from Tumi Tómasson, who has been director since the foundation of the programme in 1998.

Thor was selected for the job from amongst the many excellent applicants who responded to the advertisement for the vacant post. He holds an MSc degree from University of Massachusetts and a MEd degree from Boston University. He has worked as a scientist at the Icelandic Marine and Freshwater Research Institute since 1993 and with FTP since 2000 as the deputy director.

Tumi will continue working for FTP as an advisor, supervising special projects. The staff extends warm gratitude to him for his pioneering work and dedication at the helm for over 20 years.
