Short Bio

Dr. Allison has over 20 years' experience in the field of fisheries management and development in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Oceania, Latin America and the UK, as researcher or technical and policy advisor for various international organizations. He was a faculty member in the School of International Development, University of East Anglia, from 1996 to 2007 and from 2011 to 2013. He was Director of Policy, Economics and Social Science at the WorldFish Center from 2007 to 2010. He was recently (in November 2013) appointed Professor in the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs at the University of Washington. His research focuses on the contribution of fisheries and aquaculture to food and nutrition security, on governance of small-scale fisheries and the human rights of fisherfolk, and coastal and riparian people's vulnerability and adaptation to climate change. He gave lectures on the theme of "Social issues in developing-country fisheries and aquaculture."
