Rangeland Health Assessment and Land Monitoring Methods.

Last week, the GRÓ LRT fellows spent time in the field in Vindáshlíð and around Keldnaholt, gaining hands-on experience with rangeland health assessment and land monitoring methods. The fieldwork provided an opportunity to better understand land conditions and ecological processes in Iceland, discuss different monitoring approaches, and explore a variety of methods for collecting field data. The fellows used well-known qualitative and quantitative methods, along with simple and rapid monitoring tools such as the LandPKS app.

The week concluded with soil sampling activities, demonstrating how valuable insights into soil conditions can be gained through simple, hands-on techniques. Alongside the fieldwork, we had many lively and insightful discussions, a few football games in the sun during lunch breaks, and a visit to Snorri at Sogn farm. After petting the friendly farm dogs, we headed home with delicious local beef.
