Visit from Ecuador's Ambassador to Iceland

In September, GRÓ FTP welcomed His Excellency Inty Gronneberg Ipiales, Ecuador's Ambassador to Sweden and Ambassador accredited to Iceland, to the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute (MFRI).

On behalf of MFRI, GRÓ FTP Director Þór Ásgeirsson welcomed the Ambassador during his visit. He was given a tour of the institute and met with GRÓ FTP staff to learn about the work of MFRI and the GRÓ Fisheries Training Programme.

Discussions focused on the sustainability of marine resources, future prospects for world fisheries, and the need for capacity building among practising fisheries professionals.

Although GRÓ FTP has worked with fellows from more than 60 countries and partnered with several Latin American countries, it has not yet hosted fellows from Ecuador. The visit provided an interesting opportunity to discuss fisheries and fisheries management challenges in Ecuador.
