The Director of UNU-GEST, Dr. Irma Erlingsdóttir, recently returned from Japan where she joined female political leaders, academics, managers and members of civil society in discussions on advancing women’s empowerment and agency on national and international levels at the World Assembly for Women (WAW!) 2015 conference held in Tokyo

David M. Malone, Rector of the United Nations University, visited today the UNU-GEST programme at the University of Iceland. He was welcomed by Jón Atli Benediktsson, the Rector of the University of Iceland and Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the former President of Iceland and the Patron of UNU-GEST

The Human Development Report Office at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) convened an expert group meeting in partnership with UNU-GEST on “Gender Equality in Human Development – Measurements Revisited“ in Reykjavík, Iceland on 18 and 19 June 2015.

The United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme (UNU-GEST) celebrated the graduation of ten fellows with a post-graduate diploma in international gender studies. The fellows came from four different countries; five men and five women from Malawi, Mozambique, Palestine and Uganda.

On Thursday May 21 Clare Bishop-Sambrook, Lead Technical Specialist, Policy and Technical Advisory Division at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome, gave a public talk entitled „Gender transformative approaches for sustainable rural development: Experiences from Sub-Saharan Africa“. Clare discussed the importance of ensuring a gender perspective when implementing projects on rural livelihood and food security in IFAD’s work in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Deputy Minister of the Palestinian Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Mr. Bassam Al-Khatib, met with Dr. Irma Erlingsdottir, the Director of the United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme at the University of Iceland, in Ramallah this week to discuss future cooperation.
