Organisation

The GRÓ International Centre for Capacity Development, Sustainable use of Natural Resources and Societal Change operates under the auspices of UNESCO as a Category2 Centre.

The GRÓ Centre operates under its own legal identity and is guided and overseen by a Governing Board, appointed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Development Cooperation of Iceland, and set up as a unit within the Ministry.

The GRÓ Centre makes service agreements with relevant institutions and agencies in Iceland in the fields of fisheries, gender equality, geothermal energy and land restoration regarding the hosting of its four training programmes.

The GRÓ Centre’s core funding is provided by the Government of Iceland as part of the official development assistance budget, managed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Development Cooperation. In addition to the core funding, external funding is obtained by GRÓ, mainly through counterpart contributions from partner institutions, grants and by participation in international projects.
