Gender Equality Under Pressure - Recording from open event 3rd March
The GRÓ Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme (GRÓ GEST) was the focus of the third event of the series From Knowledge to Development Impact, that took place at the University of Iceland on the 3rd of March. The aim of the series is to highlight Iceland‘s contribution to global capacity development through the four GRÓ Training Programmes. The first two events in the series, on the GRÓ Geothermal Training Programme and GRÓ Fisheries Training Programme took place in November and February respectively.
Silja Bára Ómarsdóttir, Rector of the University, welcomed the more than 90 people that attended the event as well as the many more who followed the event online. Martin Eyjólfsson, Permanent Secretary of State, gave the opening address and Irma Erlingsdóttir, Director of GRÓ GEST, highlighted the aim of the GRÓ GEST Programme.
The keynote speaker was Yeshiwas Degu Belay, GRÓ GEST alumni and PhD scholarship recipient. The panellists were GRÓ GEST alumni that attended the Programme in 2017-2022: Aarti Lila Ram, Deputy Manager, Engro Foundation, from Pakistan, Thelma Kaliu, Co-founder of GenHub, from Malawi, Mohamed Altamash Khan, Senior Gender Trainer at Men Against Violence & Abuse, from India, and keynote speaker Yeshiwas Degu Belay.
Nína Björk Jónsdóttir, Director General of the GRÓ centre, closed the event that concluded with a call to action given by four members of the GRÓ GEST 2026 Cohort.
