Fellows currently attending the GRÓ Land Restoration Training Programme recently received a handsome donation of almost 40 translated books by Icelandic authors from Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature. The books will be available to fellows staying at the GRÓ house on Grensásvegur. The house on Grensásvegur accommodates the fellows in the Fisheries Training Programme, Geothermal Training Programme and Land Restoration Training Programme during their stay in Iceland.

The idea behind the library GRÓ is creating at Grensásvegur is to give fellows a possibility to get to know Iceland, Icelandic history, the Icelandic people and the Icelandic psyche, through literature. Iceland’s cultural heritage lies in books and reading is a very important aspect of life in Iceland. Everyone should find something of interest as the donation included different genres such as translations of the Icelandic sagas, classical novels and recent literary fiction, detective stories, science fiction and biographies.

GRÓ is a UNESCO Category 2 Centre that works under the auspices of UNESCO. It is therefore a great pleasure to receive this generous book donation from Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature. Previously the Icelandic Literature Centre and staff of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs had donated books to the GRÓ library, so the fellows now have at their disposal a good collection of books in different languages that they can dive into if they need a break from their hard work at GRÓ.
