UNESCO ADG Dr. Lidia Brito joins GRÓ Governing Board

Dr. Lidia Brito, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences, visited Iceland in May, to attend the 30th meeting of the Governing Board of GRÓ – Centre for Capacity Development, Sustainability and Societal Change. Dr. Brito was appointed as UNESCO‘s representative to the board by the Secretary General of UNESCO, Ms. Audrey Azoulay, in November 2024, taking over from Ms. Zazie Schäfer, Director of Bureau of Strategic Planning at UNESCO.
During Dr. Brito‘s visit, she delivered a speech at the graduation ceremony of the GRÓ Fisheries Training Programme and met with fellows from the GRÓ Land Restoration Training Programme, as well as with the directors of all four GRÓ training programmes. She also had a meeting with Mr. Martin Eyjólfsson, Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
GRÓ welcomes Dr. Lidia Brito to the GRÓ Governing Board and extents its gratitude to Ms. Zazie Schäfer, for her contribution to the work of GRÓ as board member.
