Fellows present final projects at an open seminar
The UNU-LRT fellows in this years’ six-month training programme are finalizing their research projects these days. They have been working on their projects for the last months under the supervision of specialists from various institutes and organizations in Iceland. This week they presented their research findings in an open seminar at the research campus of the Agricultural University of Iceland.
As always, the research projects cover a wide range of issues under the umbrella of land restoration and sustainable land management. The project topics include: production of native grass seeds for reseeding of degraded rangelands in Lesotho, factors affecting survival of agroforestry trees in Malawi, use of compost to restore soil fertility in Uzbekistan, designing restoration plan of mountainous landscapes of Tajikistan, assessing stakeholder´s perception of the posting of reclamation bond at the small-scale mining sector in Ghana, and assessing community-based pasture management in Kyrgyzstan.
The diverse issues covered in the research projects reflect the various tasks that the fellows deal with in their work at home, as all projects are linked to challenges in their home countries. When resuming their work at home the fellows will share the knowledge and skills gained from their respective projects, and make good use of the acquired knowledge in their work duties – strengthening the capacities of their institutions.
