First day of class of GRÓ LRT 2021 at Keldnaholt

We welcomed a new group of fellows for our annual six-month training here at Keldnaholt campus this morning.

We are delighted to receive the fellows here in Iceland at last, after having to cancel our training programme last year because of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. This year, the GRÓ LRT six-month training programme will run from 9 April to 27 September. The first sessions of the programme were conducted online as the fellows had to undergo a 5-day quarantine upon their arrival in Iceland due to COVID-19 restrictions. Four fellows are still to complete their 5-day quarantine and had to attend today’s sessions online from their hotel rooms.

The 2021 cohort of fellows are 17, coming from eight countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Central-Asia: Ghana, Malawi, Uganda, Lesotho, Ethiopia, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. The fellows are all experts in their respective countries working on issues related to ecosystem restoration and land management.

We warmly welcome them all!
