This morning, GRÓ LRT and the Icelandic Red Cross signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic collaboration between the two parties. The MOU expresses an interest in sharing of expertise, capacity training and collaborating in development projects focusing on land restoration and environmental sustainability.

The Icelandic Red Cross has increasingly been focusing on climate and environmental related issues in its international development and humanitarian work. Landscape restoration for environmental sustainability is now seen as key in its integrated community development programmes designed to build resilience of vulnerable communities.

GRÓ LRT creates and shares knowledge and strengthens capacity in developing countries with the aim of solving pressing challenges related to management and restoration of land and ecosystems. GRÓ LRT provides annually fellowships for 20 working specialists from developing countries to participate in a six-month training programme in Iceland on land restoration and sustainable land management

GRÓ LRT and the Icelandic Red Cross look forward to their collaboration and hope that it will lead to enhanced understanding and focus on land restoration and environmental sustainability in international development projects.
