GRÓ LRT Supporting Partner of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration

GRÓ LRT has been approved as an official Supporting Partner of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030. As a Supporting Partner, GRÓ LRT will help promote and amplify the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and its activities, but the UN Decade will be officially launched at the World Environmental Day on 5 June 2021.

The aim of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration is to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems on every continent and in every ocean, for the benefit of people and nature. With the protection and revival of ecosystems across the globe, we can achieve global goals of enhancing people’s livelihoods, counteracting climate change, and stopping the collapse of biodiversity. Led by the UNEP and FAO, the UN Decade is to build a strong, broad-based global movement to ramp up restoration: #GenerationRestoration. Ecosystem restoration is a complex task and transcends across sectors, the success of the UN Decade is therefore dependent on joint efforts of individuals, groups, and organisations around the world.

The UN Decade’s strategy focuses on a collaborative effort of all the stakeholders along three main pathways. Pathway I will generate the peer-driven, participatory global movement that focuses on upscaling restoration. Pathway II will foster political will so that leaders in the public and private sectors support the global movement and champion restoration. Pathway III will catalyse research and development that generates the technical capacity that is needed to restore ecosystems at scale.

In the role of a Supporting Partner, GRÓ LRT will focus on promoting the UN Decade and its activities through our channels and networks, and on strengthening restoration capacity among implementers through our training programme. As one of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration partners, GRÓ LRT looks forward to participating in Decade-led initiatives and collaborating with different restoration stakeholders in joint efforts in realising the Decade’s goals in the coming decade.
