The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, the Mongolian Ambassador to Iceland, GRÓ LRT director and the three Mongolian fellows currently participating in the 2025 cohort.

This morning, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Ms Battsetseg Batmunkh, visited the GRÓ LRT programme at the Keldnaholt Campus.
The Minister is currently in Iceland on an official visit, where she is meeting with the President of Iceland and the Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs. As part of her visit, she made a special stop at GRÓ LRT to learn more about the long-standing collaboration between the programme and Mongolian institutions and organizations involved in sustainable land management. Accompanying the Minister was Mr Tserendorji Munkhzul, the Mongolian Ambassador to Iceland, based in Stockholm, Sweden.
During her visit, the Minister met with GRÓ LRT fellows and staff, including the three Mongolian fellows currently participating in the 2025 cohort. She was also introduced to the GRÓ International Centre for Capacity Development, Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Societal Change, and three of its four training programmes: GRÓ LRT, GRÓ GTP (Geothermal Training Programme), and GRÓ GEST (Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme). All three have ties with Mongolia and have welcomed Mongolian specialists into their annual training programmes.
Mongolia has been a key partner country of GRÓ LRT since its founding in 2007. Over the years, the programme has worked with 10 institutions and organizations in Mongolia, building capacity in land restoration and sustainable land management. To date, 37 Mongolian professionals have graduated from the GRÓ LRT six-month training programme—making them the largest national group among all alumni. One of these graduates returned to Iceland to pursue a PhD at the Agricultural University of Iceland with support from a GRÓ LRT scholarship. In addition to the regular training programme, GRÓ LRT has partnered with Mongolian institutions to organize and deliver three short courses in Mongolia, further strengthening local expertise and collaboration
