Alumna Dr Bulgamaa Lectures on Sustainable Rangeland Strategies at GRÓ LRT
Last week, Dr Bulgamaa Densambuu, Director of the Rangeland Research and Development Programme at the Mongolian National Federation of Pasture User Groups, returned to GRÓ LRT as an international guest lecturer. Dr Bulgamaa was a member of the very first cohort of GRÓ LRT fellows in 2007, at the time representing the Mongolian University of Life Sciences in Darkhan. Since completing the GRÓ LRT programme, she has dedicated her career to rangeland management, making it the central focus of her research and development work.
Her full-day lecture, titled Assessing the Current Health of Mongolian Rangelands and the Need for Sustainable Management Strategies, covered a wide range of topics, including rangeland degradation, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of rangelands, and the critical importance of rangeland management in Mongolia. The second half of her lecture focused on resilience-based rangeland management and the “Responsible Nomads” code of practice.
It is always a special honour for GRÓ LRT to welcome alumni of its six-month training programme back as guest lecturers. These visits provide current fellows with a valuable opportunity to learn from the insights and experiences of those who came before them. Dr Bulgamaa holds a unique place in GRÓ LRT history as both a member of the inaugural cohort and the first Mongolian fellow to participate in the training.
To date, 40 fellows from Mongolia have participated in the GRÓ LRT six-month training—forming the largest national cohort in the programme’s history.
