Emily Mutota from Namibia, a LRT fellow from the 2008 programme, did an individual project on the Feasibility for an International Year of Landcare during her study at LRT.  Her LRT project has generated international attention and she has had the opportunity to present her project and issues related to it at three international conferences last year.  Furthermore, Emily Mutota has been invited by the Landcare International committee to present her LRT project at the Australian Landcare National Forum in Adelaide Australia next month.

Since her participation in the LRT programme, Emily Mutota has also been involved in the development of a Namib Ecological Restoration and Monitoring Unit (NERMU). This Unit will be coordinated and run by the Gobabeb Training and Research Centre, where Emily works, but it will also involve other relevant institutions in Namibia.

The international conferences where Emily Mutota presented her LRT project last year are 1) The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Conference - Sustainable Land Management in the Dry lands of Southern Africa: the Practicalities held in Windhoek Namibia, 2) The Fourth Biennial National Landcare Conference held in South Africa, and 3) The International Conference on Land and Water Degradation: Processes and Management held in Magdeburg Germany.

The UNU-LRT team wishes Emily a continued success in her work towards an improved landcare in the world.
