Short Bio

Guðrún is a plant ecologist and the main focus of her work within the East Iceland Nature Research Centre has been on long-term vegetation monitoring and elucidating direct and indirect drivers of change following anthropogenic activities. In her PhD, she studied population dynamics of mountain birch that established on an early-successional glacial outwash plain in Souteast Iceland following long-distance dispersal. By studying this unassisted, unforeseen, and consequential large-scale tree establishment, her approach was to gain ecosystem restoration lessons and insights from nature.
