Short Bio

Jeff Herrick is a soil scientist with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (Jornada Research Unit) in Las Cruces, New Mexico USA. He also holds adjunct faculty appointments at New Mexico State University and the University of Colorado (CU) Boulder.

Jeff Herrick´s research includes work on (1) factors that control the resistance and resilience of arid and semi-arid ecosystems, and (2) the development of systems for inventory, assessment, monitoring and management at watershed to global scales. He currently leads the global "Land-Potential Knowledge System" (LandPKS) project and is collaborating on projects in Kenya, Mexico, Mongolia, Namibia and Europe. He serves as an advisor to several US government agencies responsible for land management, is the US science representative to the UNCCD, and is a member of the UNEP International Resource Panel.
