Abstract

In early 2009 Kyrgyzstan adopted a new law on pastures. The new law prescribes new land tenure regime based on community management. The main objectives of this study were to: 1) analyse previous pasture regime, 2) describe and analyse the new law on pastures considering the effect of environmental sustainability, and 3) compare the old and new systems of pasture management with reference to the Australian principles for sustainable resource management in rangelands as model.
