KyrgyzstanAbstract
This report assesses the condition of pastures in Kyrgyzstan. Using field monitoring and statistical analysis of key indicators, including biomass, vegetation cover, and bare soil, we identified patterns of degradation and the factors influencing pasture condition. While total biomass varied considerably among regions, distinguishing between usable and unusable biomass proved essential for accurately evaluating pasture quality. Variations in vegetation cover across regions and years highlighted the vulnerability of pastures to erosion, posing significant risks to productivity. To promote sustainable pasture management, we recommend measures such as rotational grazing, erosion control, and increased public engagement. The adoption of these strategies can help Kyrgyzstan mitigate land degradation, enhance food security, and conserve valuable pasture ecosystems.
