The Fisheries Training Program has recently added two new employees to its staff; Julie Ingham joined the program in May and Stefán Úlfarsson at the beginning of August.

As the office administrator Julie keeps the wheels turning in relation to the UNU-FTP´s 6-month training programme and offers practical guidance and administrative support to our fellows and postgraduate students. With a Master´s in International Development Julie formerly worked for the Icelandic Red Cross in the field of migration and refugee support, however her main experience has been in the field of adult education, running a language school and offering English language training and related services.

Stefán’s responsibilities include web publication and topics related to the sociology and economics of the fishery sector. He has a BA degree in political science and two MSc degrees; one in fisheries science and another in the economic development of the Asia-Pacific Region. He has lived in China for extended periods of time; as a student, journalist and independent consultant. In Iceland, he was an economist at the Icelandic Confederation of Labour (ASÍ) for over eight years. Stefán has considerable experience of teaching young people at the high school level and, also, working-age people in special adult training programs. Early in his career he worked in the fishing industry on Icelandic fishing vessels and at various processing plants.
