A 10-day course that focused on stock assessment, held for the scientists from National Marine Information and Research Center (NatMIRC), Namibia, in collaboration with Marine Research Institute, Iceland.

Description

Namibia has highly developed marine fisheries. Stock assessment, used to guide the setting of total allowable catch is carried out by the National Marine Information and Research Center (NatMIRC) in Swakopmund. Recently the most experienced stock assessment biologists have left their posts and without training their replacements. In the course the use of R statistical programme was introduced. The stock assessment model used for the Namibian marine fisheries was analysed and explained.

The course was developed in partnership between senior scientists and NatMIRC and the Marine Research Institute in Iceland. The course was held in Swakopmund on 26 ofAugust to 6 of September. Ten scientists from NatMIRC took the course.
