Dr Richard Thomas, Scientific Coordinator of the Economics of Land Degradation (ELD) Initiative, delivered a two-day course on the economics of land dynamics for fellows in the GRÓ LRT six-month training programme on May 5 and 6, 2026.

The 2026 fellows were met with a true Icelandic mix of sunshine and showers as they set off on GRÓ LRT’s annual field trip through South and Southeast Iceland last week. The three-day excursion focused on land degradation, restoration and climate change, as well as the realities facing local communities living near Iceland’s retreating glaciers.
