Ársskýrsla GRÓ 2020-2021 komin út

Fyrsta ársskýrsla GRÓ ̶ Þekkingarmiðstöðvar þróunarsamvinnu er komin út. Skýrslan nær yfir fyrstu tvö árin í starfsemi miðstöðvarinnar, 2020-2021. GRÓ er sjálfstæð miðstöð sem tók til starfa 1. janúar 2020 og starfar undir merkjum UNESCO, Mennta-, vísinda- og menningarmálastofnunar Sameinuðu þjóðanna. Miðstöðin fellur undir utanríkisráðuneytið sem sinnir eftirliti og umsýslu með framlögum til hennar.

GRÓ Annual Report 2020-2021

The Annual Report for the first two years of GRÓ‘s activity, 2020-2021, is now available online. GRÓ ̶ The International Centre for Capacity Development, Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Societal Change was established on 1 January 2020 and operates under the auspices of UNESCO as a Category 2 Centre in Iceland. The Centre operates under its own legal identity and is guided and overseen by a Governing Board, appointed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, and set up as a unit within the Ministry.

On Tuesday 7 June 2022, GEST alumni from Uganda gathered at the Icelandic Embassy in Kampala for an alumni network event.

Visit from PROBLUE

Recently GRÓ-FTP had a visit from the PROBLUE trust fund. The guests were here in Iceland in connection with the annual meeting of the fund’s Partnership Council, which this time was hosted by the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs. They were keen to learn about GRÓ-FTP’s mission as a capacity building programme in the fisheries sector.

GRÓ LRT side event at the 34th session of the MAB-ICC

During the 34th Session of the International Co-ordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB-ICC) at UNESCO HQ in Paris this week, GRÓ LRT and the MAB secretariat co-hosted a side event titled Linking Knowledge to Action in Ecosystem Restoration: Cooperation between GRÓ LRT and UNSECO-MAB. The event started with opening remarks by Ms. Noëline Raondry Rakotoarisoa, Director a.i. of the SC/EES Division and Secretary of the MAB Programme, followed by a lecture by Dr Sjöfn Vilhelmsdóttir, Director of GRÓ LRT where she talked about Iceland’s experience of carrying out ecosystem restoration work for more than 100 years and the focus in the GRÓ LRT Programme on linking knowledge to action in land restoration and sustainable land management.
