Description
The Short Course on Surface Exploration for Geothermal Resources for young professionals in Central America and the Caribbean was opened on October 17th in El Salvador. The course was organized by UNU-GTP and LaGeo. It was a two week course with one week of field work in the geothermal field Ahuachapan and a second week of lectures and exercises at the head quarters of LaGeo in Santa Tecla.
The fieldwork began with geophysical fieldwork at Ahuachapan. A total of 32 students attented the course from El Salvador (9), Costa Rica (7), Nicaragua (7), Guatemala (1), Honduras (2), Dominica (2), Nevis (2) and others (2). Session instructors were professionals from LaGeo in El Salvador, Costa Rican ICE and ISOR from Iceland. For the lectures and exercises part which started on October 25th more instructors from Iceland joined the group.
