held in Santa Tecla, El Salvador 11-17 March 2012

Description

The course was attended by 65 participants from 12 countries all over Latin America and the Caribbean, including five Central American countries, i.e. Costa Rica (1), El Salvador (28), Guatemala (1), Honduras (2), and Nicaragua (11), four South American countries, i.e. Bolivia (1), Chile (5), Colombia (2), and Ecuador (2), two Caribbean islands, i.e. Dominica (2), and Nevis (1), Mexico (6), and others (3). The tendency has been for the course to grow from year to year since the first workshop was held in 2006 and participation from South American countries, including Bolivia and Chile, which were attending the Millennium Short Course series for the first time, is especially encouraging as the continent holds vast stores of geothermal energy that are yet to be harnessed. This year the main topic was the maintenance of geothermal wells, but an overview was also given of the status of geothermal in Latin America and the costs and financing of geothermal projects.
