The UNU-GTP conducted a Short Course on Well Design and Geothermal Drilling Technology in Ethiopia 12-24 January 2015 for selected employees of the Geological Survey of Ethiopia and Ethiopian Electric Power. The short course was financed by the Icelandic International Development Agency and the Nordic Development Fund as part of the Geothermal Exploration Project in East Africa.
The course covered the basics of well design and geothermal drilling technology. The first week was conducted in Addis Ababa, while the second was carried out by Lake Ziway, allowing for a field visit to the Aluto Langano geothermal field. The short course was attended by 30 participants from the two companies/institutions and lecturing was in the hands of ÍSOR – Iceland GeoSurvey and Mannvit.
