Description

The objective of the activity was to train personnel within Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) in handling Tracer Flow Testing (TFT) equipment and making TFT measurements a routine for monitoring mass flow and enthalpy of geothermal fluid from production wells in Olkaria without shutting down the flow, as well as monitoring the rate of injection into reinjection wells.  Tracer Flow Testing is carried out by injecting a known amount of two tracers into a geothermal pipeline conveying two-phase fluid.  Each tracer has an affinity for water either in the liquid phase or the steam phase.  Downstream sampling and subsequent concentration measurements of the tracers in the two phases allows for determination of mass flow and enthalpy of the fluid at the known temperature and pressure.  The training was carried out in Olkaria in Kenya by a single trainer during 31 March - 12 April, 2014.
