Description

The Workshop on Utilization of Geothermal Resources for Decision Makers from Romania was held in Oradea, Romania, on May 27-28, in cooperation with the University of Oradea.  The workshop covered the basics of geothermal development from exploration stages to utilization and management.  Lecturing was in the hands of Mr. Lúðvík S. Georgsson, Director of UNU-GTP, Dr. Árni Ragnarsson, UNU-GTP instructor and expert at ÍSOR, and Prof. Marcel Rosca, Vice Rector of the Universtiy of Oradea.  The workshop was followed up with Short Course II on Geothermal Resource Exploration, during May 30 – June 3.

The workshop and the short course are part of a wider partnership agreement between UNU-GTP and the University of Oradea on geothermal training for Romanian professionals, which is supported by the RONDINE programme of the EEA Grants scheme, with facilitation by the Environment Fund Administration of the Romanian Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and Orkustofnun – the National Energy Authority of Iceland.  The agreement covers the 6 month training of 4 Romanian geothermal professionals in Iceland in 2016 as well as the workshop for decision makers and three short courses.  Short Course on Utilization of Low- to Medium Enthalpy Geothermal Resources was held during April 4-8 and the last course of the series - on reservoir assessment and management - will be held later in 2016.
