Short Bio

Ingimar received his BSc and MS degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Iceland in 2001 and the University of California at Berkeley in 2004. In between, he attended courses in Chinese Language at the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Tsinghua University in Beijing during 2001-2002 and worked at the Thórisós / Vatnsfell hydroproject in the highlands of Iceland. He has been working in the geothermal sector since 2005, as a project management team member for the construction of a binary power plant in El Salvador during 2005-2009 and a project engineer for Orkustofnun – the National Energy Authority of Iceland during 2009-2010. He started working for the Geothermal Training Programme (GTP) in 2010 as a Project Manager and became Deputy Director in 2013. On behalf of GTP, Ingimar has been responsible for the annual short course series held in support of the UN Development Goals in El Salvador and Kenya, various tailor-made short courses in Africa, the Americas and Europe, and the Geothermal Diploma Course project in El Salvador – all in cooperation with local partners. He has supported and contributed to most routine activities of UNU-GTP and taken part in various ad-hoc projects through the years.
