Short Bio

Gudni Axelsson took over as Director of the Geothermal Training Programme at the beginning of 2020. He earned a BSc-degree in physics from the University of Iceland in 1978 and PhD-degree in geophysics from Oregon State University, USA, in 1985, specializing in the physics of geothermal systems. From 1985 through 2019 Gudni worked as a geothermal reservoir physicist/engineer at Orkustofnun, later Iceland GeoSurvey, specializing in testing of geothermal wells, monitoring geothermal systems during utilization, modelling of geothermal systems and their assessment, reinjection, tracer testing and overall management of geothermal projects and sustainable management of geothermal systems during utilization. Gudni has also been heavily involved in geothermal education all his carrier. Most significantly through the geothermal Training Programme as lecturer and student advisor, but also through the two main universities in Iceland, University of Iceland and Reykjavík University. He was an adjunct professor at the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, University of Iceland, 2007 – 2017.
