Short Bio

Dr. Helgi Thorarensen is a professor in the department of aquaculture and fish biology at Holar University College. He received his MSc (1989) and PhD (1994) in biology from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada. After completing his PhD, Helgi was a postdoctoral fellow at Massey University in New Zealand before taking up a position at Holar.

Dr. Thorarensen's research interests include fish physiology, especially the physiology of aquaculture fish. He is currently involved in research projects on the effects of rearing environment on fish, alternative raw materials for fish feed and methods for selective breeding of Arctic charr.
