New members on the UNU-GTP studies board

The UNU-GTP is academically governed by a Studies Board, whose members are experts in their field and are responsible for each of the specialized courses relating to their field. Some of the members have been on the Board from its establishment but are now retiring from their position and therefore the Board welcomes new members and gives thanks to the retiring members for their contribution through the years.

Short Course VI to be held in El Salvador, 23-30 March, 2014

The United Nations University Geothermal Training Programme (UNU-GTP) in Iceland and LaGeo S.A. de C.V. in El Salvador will be hosting "Short Course VI on Utilization of Low- and Medium-Enthalpy Geothermal Resources and Financial Aspects of Utilization", to be held in Santa Tecla, El Salvador during 23-30 March, 2014.

Short Course on Geothermal Development for Decision Makers from Malawi, Tanzania and Zambia

The UNU-GTP held a Short Course on geothermal development for decision makers from Malawi, Tanzania and Zambia in cooperation with Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) and Geothermal Development Company (GDC) at Lake Naivasha in Kenya from 26 to 30 November.

Short Course VIII on Exploration for Geothermal Resources held in Kenya

The annual UN Millennium Development Goals "Short Course VIII on Exploration for Geothermal Resources" was held Oct. 31 - Nov. 23, 2013 at Lake Naivasha, Kenya. The course was hosted by the UNU-GTP, Geothermal Development Company, Kenya (GDC), and Kenya Electricity and Generating Company, Ltd. (KenGen). The course is a continuation of the short course series on geothermal exploration that falls within the framework of UNU-GTP Millennium Short Courses that have been conducted annually in Kenya since 2005.

Short Course VIII on Exploration for Geothermal Resources in Kenya

Short Course VIII on Exploration for Geothermal Resources is currently underway at Lake Naivasha in Kenya. The course is hosted by the UNU-GTP, Geothermal Development Company, Kenya (GDC), and Kenya Electricity and Generating Company, Ltd. (KenGen). The course, which started on October 31 and will last until November 23, is a continuation of the short course series on geothermal exploration that falls within the framework of UNU-GTP Millennium Short Courses that have been conducted annually in Kenya since 2005.

UNU-GTP receives the Victor de Sola awards in El Salvador

On November 1st, a representative of the UNU-GTP was presented with the Victor de Sola award at an annual awards ceremony held within LaGeo S.A. de C.V. in El Salvador. The award, which is named after one of the pioneers of geothermal exploration in El Salvador, is granted to a person or institution that has given substantial support to geothermal development in El Salvador and especially to those who have contributed to the technical and scientific capabilities of LaGeo.
