Workshop in Kigoma, Tanzania
The Fisheries Training Programme conducted a five-day workshop in Kigoma, Tanzania from 18 – 22 November 2019. The workshop was on fish quality and training in sensory evaluation of fish freshness. It was conducted in collaboration with Matís, TAFIRI and the Tanzanian regional government authorities.

FTP and OSPESCA in a symposium in Nicaragua
On November 7 and 8 the UNU-FTP and OSPESCA are conducting a two day symposium in Nicaragua to assess the status of the fisheries among the Central American countries and identify their needs and priority in fisheries development.

Gathering of FTP Scholarship Recipients
This morning, a breakfast meeting was held for all Fisheries Training Programme scholarship recipients currently in Iceland pursuing MSc or PhD studies at Icelandic Universities. This distinguished group of former FTP fellows includes three MSc and six PhD students, representing Vietnam, Indonesia, Uganda, Angola, Ghana, Liberia, Cabo Verde, and Guyana.

Welcome 2019 cohort of fellows
Our 2019 cohort of fellows arrived last Monday (2nd of September) and have been in the process of settling in during the last few days. Altogether 23 fellows from 11 countries will participate in the six months training programme winter 2019-20.

New director at UNU-FTP
Thor Heiðar Ásgeirsson is the new director of FTP. He formally took over the responsibility on August 1st from Tumi Tómasson, who has been director since the foundation of the programme in 1998.
