Director Ludvik Georgsson awarded the Victor de Sola award in El Salvador

In early December the Director of UNU-GTP, Ludvik S. Georgsson was given the honorary Victor de Sola award by the national energy company LaGeo in El Salvador. The award is given annually in honorary recognition to a person selected by a competent committee from a list of people who have made extraordinary and lasting contributions to the development of geothermal energy in El Salvador.

A new geothermal power plant opens in the Azores Islands

This power plant was built as a part of the Renewable Energy Programme Area under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism supported by Orkustofnun. The Programme included the installation of a 3 MW geothermal power plant to increase the share of renewables in the Azores and three support initiatives to advanced and specialised training in geothermal energy. The Programme started in 2013 and will be completed in December 2017.

UNU-GTP and Hebei Geo University sign an institutional agreement

On November 2nd, the representatives of UNU-GTP and Hebei Geo University (HGU) signed an institutional agreement on cooperation in Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province, China.
